Palacký University Olomouc was founded in 1573 and is the second oldest university in the Czech Republic and the oldest university in Moravia region. It is one of the most prestigious universities in the Czech Republic. The Department of Asian Studies was established in 1993. It is a young, dynamically evolving workplace which is oriented on the contemporary language and culture of the Asian region, with emphasis on the region of Pacific Asia. It consists of 5 sections: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, and Vietnamese.
