Second issue of CATSarena online

Date:

Date:

25 August 2021

The second issue of CATSarena, the newsletter of the
Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies (CATS), is now online. The present issue focuses on the topic of “COVID-19 and Epidemics in Asia,” and highlights how the dimensions of the pandemic vary across the countries of Asia. To this scope, the contributors document a wide range range of local responses to COVID-19, from the subversion of health measures to the critique of governments. In addition, the issue features some more personal accounts about travel and research in Asia. Emphasis is also placed on the new research initiatives undertaken by CATS during the pandemic, and the solutions adopted to keep “university life” going under these challenging circumstances. As usual, each of the four CATS institutions and the CATS Library share their news and updates, thereby presenting some highlights from their research and teaching activity.

CATSarena is the new, bi-annual newsletter of the
Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies (CATS). The CATS campus, opened in summer 2019, houses the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS), the Institute of Anthropology (IfE), the South Asian Institute (SAI) and the Centre for East Asian Studies (ZO), as well as a central library (CATS Library). The founding directors are Prof.
Axel Michaels and Prof.
Barbara Mittler.
