Title

CfA: Double Doctoral Degree Program in Asian and Transcultural Studies

Date:

Date:

7 June 2019

The Joint Doctoral Degree Program seeks applications that explore cultural exchange processes within or between Eurasia and the Mediterranean. The program employs a transcultural approach to study these regions in a way that transcends notions of historically fixed geographical, ethnic or linguistic borders. By instead focusing on processes of exchange, it challenges the limitations imposed by such boundaries and the institutions that reproduce them.
To develop their projects, the doctoral candidates will spend a minimum of one year at each university and will be co-supervised by one professor at Heidelberg University and Ca’ Foscari University, respectively. Upon successful completion of their doctoral studies, they will receive a degree diploma from both universities that refers to the joint degree program and the partner university.

Prospective applicants must hold an above-average MA (or equivalent) in the humanities or social sciences and prove advanced skills in English (at least level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Furthermore, they must indicate a supervisor from Heidelberg University and Ca’ Foscari University, respectively, who would be fitting advisors to their doctoral project. Successful applicants in this call will receive an Erasmus stipend for stay in Venice from 6 to 10 months.

The deadline for applications is June 15, 2019.
