China experts professor Marina Svensson and associate senior lecturer Nicholas Loubere will present tentative research and field-trip experiences.
Title: "After the Gold Rush: Following Chinese Miners Across Time and Space"Nicholas Loubere, associate senior lecture in the Study of Modern China, will be presenting a tentative research plan. No paper is circulated prior to the talk.Nicholas' research focuses on processes and patterns of underdevelopment, marginality and inequality at different levels within China and globally. During this trip I interviewed scholars, curators and photographers, walked with photographers in their ‘hunting’ grounds, and explored a range of exhibitions and other spaces for photography. This trip is part of a larger project that hopefully will result in a book.Marina Svensson's research covers a range of different topics related to contemporary Chinese society. She has received research grants from the major national research bodies, has been the project leader for a number of different interdisciplinary research projects, for example on Chinese law, investigative journalism in China, and China’s digital society. She has organised many international conferences and has also arranged a number of documentary film festivals. Marina serves regularly as a reviewer of articles to academic journals. N.B.
